Thursday, 05 February 2009 at 18:58 Rédaction Open GDF SUEZ

Following Maria Sharapova's withdrawal from the 2009 Open GDF SUEZ, tournament directors offered a top ten wild card to world number 3 Jelena Jankovic.

One former number 1 will be replacing another!  With Maria Sharapova announcing on Wednesday that she was not yet ready to resume competition following shoulder surgery, Jelena Jankovic has received a wild card into the 17th Open GDF SUEZ.  The Serbian fell in the Australian Open quarterfinals to Marion Bartoli and will be looking to right her ship after her upset Down Under.  Jankovic will be rendezvousing in Coubertin with two other players from the top 5:  Elena Dementieva (world no. 4) and Serena Williams (new world no. 1).
