Despite a bad cold, Melanie Oudin answered questions about her victory over Hungary's Agnes Szavay and her first qualification for the semifinal of the Open GDF SUEZ.
You were a bit sick today. How did you find the courage to fight and come back?
I've always been a good fighter, I've learned from the US Open and those matches in which I was behind and eventually came back and won. So I fought hard, she gave me a few easy points in the second set. And then I started to be much more agressive, to play better and of course it helped in the second and third sets.
Will you feel well enough to play against Dementieva tomorrow?
Yes, each time I go on the court I play 100% and I don't look for excuses. I was able to play fine today, even though I was sick, so I'm looking forward to playing well again tomorrow.
Honestly, when you were dow 6-2, 3-1, we thought the match was over and we could call it a night. Did you have the same impression?
Yeah, well, I could definitely feel my timing was a little off in the first set but then I started getting some confidence. You know, tennis can be such a weird game sometimes, things can change just like that. I'm very happy with the day I fought back today.
Can you tell us a little bit more about throat and that health issue? Is it bothering you?
Well, it's just a cold, I've had it for about a week, since Fed Cup I think. It's just taking some time to leave me.
You seem to appreciate France now...
Yes, it's the first time I've been in the semifinal of a Premier tournament in a very long time so of course, I'm very excited!
