Dementieva: Looking to Dominate

With two tournament wins in three tries, Elena Dementieva's season got off to a blistering start.  But that was before she was knocked out in the Australian Open semifinals by Serena Williams.  The Open GDF SUEZ would be a great stage for her to take revenge on the American.

Dementieva had a very successful January.  That's the least one could say.  She won in Auckland without dropping a set and then in Sydney where she defeated Dinara Safina for the title.  This Team GDF SUEZ player was hoping to ride that momentum to her first Grand Slam title in Melbourne.  After easy wins in the early rounds, the Beijing Olympic champion was beaten handily by Serena Williams in the semifinals (6-3, 6-4).

Oh well… Elena Dementieva will just have to wait a little bit longer.  At 28, the world number 4 has learned how to be patient.  While waiting for better luck at one of the four majors, the 2008 Wimbledon and US Open semifinalist can set her sights on the Open GDF SUEZ, a tournament she hasn't won in seven tries.  Why not use the occasion to exact revenge on Serena?  In fact, the best French speaker of all the Russian players will be a fan favorite in Paris.  The Team GDF SUEZ player will be fresh off a Fed Cub match.  With Safina and Sharapova not playing, she has been leading the dangerous Russian team.
