Much more enterprising in the match's key moments, Shahar Peer has qualified for the quarterfinals at the Open GDF SUEZ after her victory 6-4, 6-3 over Karolina Sprem.
After taking down Alizé Cornet, Shahar Peer seems to like it here on Coubertin's Central Court . After an easy win over the Frenchwoman, the World N° 22 was now to face  Karolina Sprem, 88th. The two players have only met once in the past, with a 7-5, 6-3 win by Peer in Camberra , Australia . Match after match, Peer is back to her 2007 level when she was World 17th, making her the highest-ranking Isralian player in history! Already ten victories in 2010 and a losing final in Hobart , Peer is gaining power as the weeks go by. But that didn't make it easier to get past a combative Croatian player. The first set was extremely tight, Sprem even managed a unconverted break point. Each of the two players carried away their serve. It seemed to be leading to a tie break when Peer grabbed her first chance to conclude the first set. On the only set point in her favour, Peer lets her technique do the talking and lays down a passing shot right on the line! 6- 4 in 36 minutes of play.

Karolina Sprem has had a surprising career, to say the less. Due to injuries, the Croatian finished the 2007 season 209th world whereas four years later, she was one of the best players in the world, reaching the Top 20 and a very attractive 17th place, her best ranking to date. Borna Bikic's former protégé was playing her fifth match this week today, after being qualified. She must have been feeling tired early in the second set. A smash in the alley, slightly less mobility, Sprem gets taken by surprise on the first break point by her opponent (3-1). Peer has done most of the work by getting things under control quickly, since Sprem doesn't come back and finally folds 6-4, 6-3 in 1h09.
