N°8 seed Elena Vesnina had a perfect start in the 2010 Open GDF SUEZ by defeating Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru. The Russian player was very relaxed after her first-round match.

For your first match here, it went quite well...
It was actually a very tough match and since I had never played her before, I didn't really know what to expect, even though I had heard very good things about her. I also knew she had won a WTA tournament last year in Warsaw, so I was really looking forward to playing against her. I managed to stay focused throughout the match and I'm glad I won today.

The first set was quite easy and then in the second set, everything was ok until you decided to call your coach. What did he tell you?
He told me I was playing too fast and making too many unforced errors because of that. And it was true, especially on important points, it was going so fast! I was up 2 - love and the next thing I know, she was ahead 3 - 2 and that's when I called my coach.

And after that, you only lost one game, so you obviously found a solution.
Yes, I did find a solution eventually. But you know, it was only my first match of the tournament, it's ok to feel a little nervous, you can't play well throughout your first match. Yes, I had some ups ans downs but hopefully, in my next match, I'll be able to play at the same level all match long.

Do you know who you'll play in that next round?
No, I don't, I haven't seen the draw. I do look at draws, but I just haven't had time to look at this one yet.

How do you like the Open GDF SUEZ?
I love Paris, I just love this city. It's actually surprising that this is only my first time here. i wanted to come and play last year but I played Fed Cup so I couldn't make it for the qualies. So I'm glad I finally entered this tournament. I think Paris is one of the best places in the world, it's such a beautiful city, and the court here is great too, it is so nice to play on center court, I feel so comfortable out there.

Having a coach who is from here, does that make things easier?
Yes, absolutely, i don't have to pay for a hotel.
